In May everything seems possible.
Walking through the meadows, having a regency era picnic in the meadows and being showered by the pink cherry blossoms before they’re all gone. We’re talking white lace, sun hats, wicker baskets, small sandwiches, dainty treats, a book of poetry to read from and impress your friends with. You get the picture. Everything feels lush and green and just about to begin again.
Six years ago on the 15th of May I arrived at a flat in Stockbridge. 2 bags and a dog and the vague feeling that I was going to stay. – And I did.
Since then Edinburgh has been the home I’ve always longed for, a place to settle and grow. There’s a reason that despite rising rents and cost of living, I just can’t imagine myself anywhere else and I know that everyone who found their way to this monthly round-up feels the same: Edinburgh is magic.
After writing on my book for months and a five week stay at an artist residency in Mexico, the hiatus of writing the Edinburgh Muse was needed but it feels good to be back.
And before I get totally sentimental, here are the top 5 things to do and see this month and about one of them I am especially excited about plus a SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
Join the Leith Run Club Every Sunday at 9:30am a lovely bunch of people are meeting at the community croft in Leith Links to go for a run. It’s the perfect way to start your Sunday and meet other people and they always go for a treat afterwards, which I guess is probably the best reason to join. Find all the info here.
The Paradigm Shift Open Studio in Leith To be honest it took me a while to fully understand what Paradigm Open Studio was. I kept walking past their window on my morning walks thinking that it was simply a tailor but little did I know. They actually are a social enterprise with a pretty cool concept, trying to give a new approach to retail and serve as communal creative space. You can learn how to mend your clothes in drop-in classes, join the monthly bookclub or book the studio to work on your garments. In May the chosen book is Spring by Ali Smith which I would highly recommend.
Things Are Different Now Book Launch at Typewronger on the 19th of May. My book is coming out this month and I couldn’t be more excited. Things That Are Different Now is the third and final book of my poetic memoir trilogy, it’s a book about change, how we need to and sometimes don’t want to, how it’s hard to make a living and also have a life and how there truly are no beginnings or endings ever. Just change. There are only a few tickets left.
Guisados Mexican streetfood pop-up Since I spent the last 5 weeks in Mexico learning how to weave, I’m really keen to try Guisados Mexican kitchen. It’s a grassroots popup based in Leith Edinburgh, that combines traditional cooking methods with fresh local produce and authentic ingredients to recreate the deep and vibrant flavours of Mexico. And I am here for it.
The Porty Festival from 10th-11th of May Edinburgh sure is not short of festivals so naturally Porty has assimilated to that energy. A two day festival with various workshops, concerts, talks and gatherings. Personally I’d go to the embroidery workshop or the granny square crochet workshop but there is something for everyone. Find it here.

“The April full moon is also called the pink moon because of the pink flower bloom in the Northern Americas. And I think of the Nick Drake song Pink Moon and how he sings that a pink moon is coming for us all. How actions have consequences. Change is inevitable. I let my foot turn into the strangest directions, my hips shaking, a leap, another leap, a twist and a twirl. I’m turning turning turning, moving in union, moving in my own pace: dancing questionably. I look up at the moon. Things are different now.”
Size: A3 on 135gsm Ivory paper
Click here to ENTER THE GIVEAWAY on my Instagram or if you rather just want to get one without the fuzz, shop the print here.
The GIVEAWAY ends on the 15th of May, which is also the publication day of my book.
