I don’t know why but March is the month to move forward, to go ahead, to start something new, move house, move country, finally get rid of all the clutter, divorce everything that is not serving you: in March we begin, again.
Some people say in March we experience the spring of deception, where for a few days it really seems like spring before we go back to second winter, however I think in March we can see our potential, everything is awakening and albeit it may still be really cold on some days and then suddenly be warm on others, deception is the wrong word. March is like a dance that pulls us back and forth between our slumber and our awake selfs. Creating an energy that if used well can propel you in just the right direction.
Speaking of hot and cold. If you’ve been reading the Edinburgh Muse for a while now, you will know that I am a frequent cold water swimmer and for those of you who want to try this but also want to make sure to be able to warm up afterwards, you should try Edinburgh’s mobile sauna. Soul Water Sauna is a traditional wood fired sauna nestled on Portobello's promenade. Offering a place of relaxation, where you can reconnect with your body, the elements and the coastline.
Easter falls this year on the last weekend of March so there’s plenty of time to think about how you want to paint your easter eggs. My favourite method is using dried onion skins as a natural dye and little flowers to imprint onto the eggshell. The result is always stunning.
And if painting your own easter eggs isn’t wholesome enough, why not visit one of the many farmers markets Edinburgh has to offer? Personally I love the one in Leith by the shore; never too crowded, lovely stalls and really good street food. Try the truffle mushroom Arancini or the incredible Tanzanian food by Ma Robert's. Dates:
Stockbridge Market, 10 am to 5 pm, Sunday
Leith Market, 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday
Castle Terrace Market, 9 am to 2 pm, Saturday
Grassmarket Market, 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday
If you’re a freelancer or small business owner and have not heard of This Is Habits, you are in for a treat. Founder Alix Picken is taking the stuffiness out of goal-driven networking events that can be awkward and dehumanising by creating a space where people can actually meet and connect, the motto: We’re humans before we’re business owners. There are lots of upcoming events so best to follow them on instagram to keep up to date.
Do a spring cleaning, declutter your wardrobe and gift discarded items to friends or your local charity shop. And if you want to go all in: last year I finally hired someone to clean my windows from the outside. I used to live in an old tenement flat with crusty windows for days and honestly, those 25 quid I put down to get them cleaned, I never looked back.
I hope you got something out of this month’s list.
And if you did, why not click on the heart to let others know or forward this to a friend?
Also: there’s always the option to return the favour and treat me to a hot chocolate or become a paid subscriber and support this project. It is greatly appreciated!
